At the recent Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, the core cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation held a panel during which Battlestar Galactica’s Aaron Douglas posed an interesting question to Wil Wheaton. This prompted the youngest member of the cast (now 39 years old) to take a moment and get something off his chest.

Wil’s character Wesley Crusher on Next Generation was not unanimously received and Wil’s decision to leave the show was apparently his own. It’s not like he has been out of work since leaving Star Trek, however in geek circles, he has earned his own recognition – even playing himself on The Big Bang Theory.

But to hear him come to terms with his position on the stage, and finally be able to admit to the cast he worked with the longest that he always felt like an outsider – and then be affirmed by them – had to be a big relief for him.

This was very touching to see. Considering the show has been off the air for 18 years, and the last feature film with this cast was a decade ago, it is a testament to the fans who still have a soft spot for the franchise.

Fan Film: StarWars The Old Republic

This is an astonishingly good Star Wars fan film. Remember the original cinematic intro "Hope", well some incredibly talented fans created the entire thing, shot for shot, but in real life. It completely blows my mind that a fan could put something like this together in his spare time when the technology to create the relatively primitive effects in the original Star Wars trilogy have only been around for thirty-five years or so. It make you wonder what sort of things our grandkids will be cobbling together thirty years down the road.

Humor: No, Use ALL the TROPES!

A screenwriter pretty much uses every overdone trope from every science fiction-y TV show or movie ever. He notes that he is available to star in any upcoming science fiction blockbusters.

Trailer: The Dark Knight Rises

Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar(R) winner Christian Bale ("The Fighter") again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar(R) winner Marion Cotillard ("La Vie en Rose"), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar(R) winner Michael Caine ("The Cider House Rules") plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar(R) winner Morgan Freeman ("Million Dollar Baby") reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

Game Trailer: Reset

This is for a game called Reset, and it's just about the prettiest video game trailer I've ever seen.

Of course, as Dead Island showed, a good trailer does not an awesome game make. From what I gather, Reset is a first-person puzzler, where you have a time travel mechanic that allows you to play co-op with yourself. I like the idea, plus it will attract players of Portal 2 co-op who aren’t on speaking terms with their fellow players anymore.

Trailer: Prometheus

An international trailer for Prometheus went live over the weekend, giving some more hints about Charlize Theron’s character, a look at a Rubik’s Cube projector, and a glimpse of a proto-facehugger.
