Trailer: Apollo 18

Dimension Films has released the third and final trailer for the horror-thriller Apollo 18, which lands in theaters September 2 and proves once again that, in space, no one can hear you scream.

Infographic: ‘The Cost of Content Theft’ By The Numbers

mpaa-infographic
Oddly enough, we discovered this infographic through the Torrent Freak pirate news site. They believe it to be “industry funded,” and I have to say, I agree. The numbers on this one are ridiculously one-sided. I seriously doubt that shutting down torrent traffic tomorrow would magically poor US$58 billion dollars into our economy. In fact, I strongly suspect that, in these tough times, piracy is playing a huge part in retaining audiences among people who don't have a lot of money to spare for entertainment right now. Accept it or not, letting fans keep up with Dexter or the whatever other series they follow when they can't afford cable is a hell of lot better for the industry than losing the fans altogether. But that's just my two cents.

Trailer: Twixt

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, Twixt stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Elle Fanning, David Paymer and Ben Chaplin. Francis Ford Coppola's dark, trippy horror flick was inspired by the gothic horror of Edgar Allen Poe. The film tells the tale of a burnt-out mystery writer (Val Kilmer) who gets mixed up in murder and evil in a California town.

"A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He's unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated."

Stills: The Hunger Games

Lionsgate has released the first two official stills from The Hunger Games, the franchise set to kick off March 23, 2012.

"Set in post-apocalyptic America, Hunger Games introduces 16-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen, who must participate in a fight-to-the-death annual event called the Hunger Games. The battles are televised, and pit youths from each of the Capitol’s 12 Districts against each other."

The Batsignal Flies in Pittsburgh

The Bat-signal is normally a sign that trouble is brewing. Except in Pittsburgh. There the signal means support. The crew of The Dark Knight Rises has been filming in the city and will probably be there throughout the winter. The city apparently likes them and wanted to show it by putting out the Bat-signal.
